The Club comprises a membership, Members and Members with Exhibiting Rights. The cost to join is the same for both. Membership is open to all over 18, but if you wish to exhibit you have to have Exhibiting Rights. To become a Member with Exhibiting Rights, you will be required to present at least five original works, mounted but not necessarily framed, together with proof of study, such as a sketch book or similar. Work will be assessed by members of the Council. Dates for assessment are twice a year before our Exhibitions, and dates will be notified in avance to members. If the date is inconvenient, members are invited to approach a Council Member for a special request assessment, when the Council will do its best to accommodate such a request.

What we do

The Isle of Wight Art Club meets each Tuesday afternoon during the winter months at the Riverside Centre in Newport from 2pm - 4pm. A refreshment break half way through the afternoon provides an opportunity to meet other members. There is limited free parking with number plate recognition at the Riverside. You will need to sign in, giving your car registration. If you drive in and leave because you cannot find a space, please ensure you still enter your registration at Reception. There are several car parks nearby with pay machines.

We have a mix of workshops and demonstrations during the winter months. The workshops are in three parts: live model for portraiture, still life and an area for you to do your own work. The demonstrations are provided by professional guest artists covering a variety of media. During the year there are also several one-day study days arranged by the Club featuring professional artists both local or from the mainland. The numbers for these are limited to 16 and generally cost £40-£60 per person. A £10 deposit is required.

During the summer we organise “Plein Air" sessions on Tuesday mornings at 10am at a variety of outdoor locations, including local beauty spots and places of interest, providing many painting/sketching opportunities. These run from the first Tuesday in May through to the beginning of October.

Winter and Summer Programmes are published on the website prior to the start of each season and hard copies will be available at the Riverside Centre at our Tuesday meetings.

The Club stages at least two exhibitions of Members’ work each year.

An elected Council meets bi-monthly to manage the Club's affairs.
